What is HTML?

Html stands for Hyper Text markup Language.

Html is the building block for webpages.

Html is a text that contains links to other text. This implies that when you click the hypertext, you are redirected to another web page on the Internet.

Html is not a programming language, it is a markup language. It is used to design the layout of a web page. Html allows you to format, arrange and group text, display text as links, and add images and multimedia to a web page. In other words, Html describes the structure of the webpage.

The purpose of Html is to display text, images, tables, audio, video and hyperlinks in a web browser.

Prerequisites

You will need a text editor, such as notepad or notepad+ or sublime and an Internet browser such as Google chrome or Microsoft Edge or Mozilla firefox.

Basic structure of a Html Document

Html is a format that tells a computer how to display a web page. A Html document must consist of four tags: <html>, <head>, <title>, <body>.

  1. Html stands for Hypertext markup language.
  2. A Html file must have html or htm extension.
  3. A Html file contains mark-up tags and markup tags tell the browser how to display the webpage.
